Method 1 : Microsoft Hotfix Download

Method 2 : Disable Automatic Logon feature
- Press Windows logo key + R ( to bring up run )
- In the box type control userpasswords2
- Make sure that you are logged in as administrator
- Check the box that says “ Users must enter a username & password to use this computer”
- Click Apply
- Click OK
Method 3 : System Restore
- When you receive the error, just restart your computer
- Press F8 at the time of system boot process
- Enter Safe mode
- Follow this guide to restore your computer to an earlier time

Both methods rely on the ability to log in to Windows… and this particular error comes up immediately as Windows GUI is loading, so getting in to Windows is an impossibility, even in Safe Mode.
Hi, I you have a Windows DVD, boot from it and try the repair options there.
Method 1 means you have to be able to load windows, cant install the hotfix in Safe Mode.
Started in safe mode, did method 2 but the box was already ticked. Un-ticked it instead and rebooted in normal mode, and windows loaded fine.
Have now installed the hotfix, thanks for pointing me in the right direction
